Meet Lisa

Lisa joined the hospice 8 years ago, initially on the inpatient unit, then moving to the Hospice at Home team, before ultimately moving to the Wellbeing Hub where she is now a Senior Staff Nurse. She says:

"I was a young mum at 18 years old, and had several small part-time jobs. After the birth of my second child I became an auxiliary nurse on permanent nights. During one night shift in 1998, a patient was very poorly and I spent all night nursing the lady and supporting her family until her death in the early hours of the morning. I found this experience had a profound effect on me, and I decided then I would like to train to become a hospice nurse.

"Having been able to witness all aspects of hospice care, from early intervention to end of life, has been so rewarding. It has helped me value all my colleagues and their roles throughout the hospice. I do feel like I've really found my place in nursing in the Wellbeing Hub though. When you work in palliative care, this is such a valuable role as it's nice to see people living well before they move to needing other care. Coming to work and knowing you've really helped someone is an amazing feeling."

"It's a privilege to do this job and to have patients trust you with their thoughts and feelings."

My mum attended day care at the hospice, she was so well looked after. It’s a wonderful support for families as well as the patients so I wanted to support it. Thank you.
