Bolton Hospice shortlisted for Best Contribution to Research Delivery outside of the NHS in the Greater Manchester Health & Care Research Awards 2023

Bolton Hospice are proud to have been shortlisted in the ‘Best Contribution to Research Delivery outside of the NHS’ category in the Greater Manchester Health & Care Research Awards 2023.

Despite tough competition from a large number of nominees, Bolton Hospice has been recognised for their contribution to research delivery for their achievements in the Chelsea II trial.

The aim of the CHELsea II trial is to assess the effectiveness of clinically assisted hydration in patients in the last days of life.

Clinically assisted hydration (CAH) is highly debated because there is no high-quality research to show whether it improves end of life care.

The research aims to rigorously evaluate the role CAH in end of life care, determining whether or not it can improve end of life care for patients.

Bolton Hospice is the first hospice in Greater Manchester involved in the project.

The awards, first held in 2013, are organised and hosted by NIHR Clinical Research Network Greater Manchester.

They are designed to recognise and celebrate research delivery achievements made during the last year in Greater Manchester.

Our team at Bolton Hospice has worked incredibly hard to collaboratively evaluate the effectiveness of hydration in the last days of life. The Chelsea II trial is an important research project that will enable healthcare professionals up and down the country to provide the very best end of life care for patients.”
