The additional government funding announced for hospices in the UK is welcome news just before Christmas and an encouraging step forward to ensure fairer funding for hospices.

Wes Streeting’s announcement of additional one-off capital funding for hospices is a clear indication that the government values how crucial our role is in providing the very best palliative care.

After months of campaigning with Hospice UK, our voice has been heard and we look forward to working together in the new year to continue to work towards a longer-term solution to secure fair, sustainable funding to ensure everyone in our community has access to high-quality hospice care when they need it.

We head into 2025 facing the challenge of raising £5 million to provide specialist care and support for the local people who will need us next year, but heartened by the government’s support for our work and by the incredible support and generosity of our community.
