Ambitious supported raises thousands climbing Mount Kilimanjaro!

Determined supporter, Joanna (Jo) Dyke of Lostock Skip Hire, recently summited Mount Kilimanjaro in the name of raising vital funds for us!

No stranger to a fundraising challenge, Jo has previously trekked across the Arctic and the Sahara, also for the us, as well as pledged to support the local charity by signing her company, Lostock Skips, up to the patron scheme.

Her hardest challenge to date, though, saw Jo fly to Tanzania and embark in an ambitious ascent up Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest freestanding mountain in the world.

Standing at nearly 6000m above sea level, Jo battled severe altitude sickness, uncomfortable camping, and bitter temperatures to reach the summit.

Despite nearly stopping just an hour and a half and 500m of elevation away from the summit due to the altitude, Jo kept plodding on, fuelled by the memory of her Nanna who was cared for at the hospice, and the knowledge of how many other families facing life-limiting illnesses she would be helping.

Jo’s initial aim was to raise enough to fund one day of care at the hospice, and having raised over the daily patient care costs of £12,500 with Gift Aid and some last minute donations, Jo has achieved her ambitious target.

We would like to extend our congratulations and thanks to Jo on her incredible achievement.

WELL DONE 💜
