Ellen runs an annual quiz night for around 115 people. The quiz is made up of music, games, pasties, and raffle prizes. Ellen has hosted five quizzes to help raise funds for Bolton Hospice, including a virtual one during lockdown. Altogether Ellen has raised over an incredible £11,000 from the quizzes she has hosted to help raise vital funds for us.

Ellen chose to help raise vital funds in memory of her dad who was cared for by our specialist team in 2016. After being diagnosed with a brain tumour, Ellen’s dad ended up staying with us longer than expected and Ellen said “The staff were so amazing with him and our family, making it feel like home for us through the tough time. We know how important funds are to help continue this service for families, so we wanted to find ways to help”.

Ellen also helped to organise a cycle from Bolton to Stockton, her dad’s hometown. Her husband and some friends took part in helping to raise £2,800. The cycle finished at Ellen’s dad’s childhood home, where her now-husband proposed! Since then, Ellen has been running quizzes helping to raise vital funds since 2020, with the quizzes getting bigger and bigger each year!

Ellen loves to host the quiz saying “I look forward to bringing lots of different people together each year for a fun evening and seeing everyone get involved. Everyone is so generous and are so supportive of the hospice”.

One of Ellen's favourite memories of hosting the quizzes is her Father-in-Law once spending a fortune buying back some chocolate Brazil nuts that he had originally donated!
