University of Bolton donates £700 to Bolton Hospice raised by cut-price student lockdown meals 

Generous staff and students at the University of Bolton have raised £700 for Bolton Hospice by donating money collected from £1 meals sold to students during Bolton’s extra Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.

Catering staff prepared hundreds of healthy meals for students, subsidised by the University, when the town was placed under the tougher regime in September and October.

As eating and drinking inside a restaurant or café was not allowed, the University supported students in student accommodation or living independently by offering the £1-per-meal food service.

The University also backed local businesses, offering a takeaway meal from a Bolton restaurant for £1, again subsidised by the University.

All the money collected has been donated to the hospice. The University’s Catering Manager Karen Norton and Chef Andrew Wright handed over the cheque for £700 to Bolton Hospice Trustee Ian Savage.

We are incredibly grateful to the University of Bolton for their amazing generosity and kindness. We are touched that the University has turned a difficult situation - for their staff, students and our town as a whole, into a positive by thinking of Bolton Hospice and our patients during these unusual times, and showing us support when it is needed now more than ever.
