Rules of Thumb - Practical ways of supporting people with dementia at the end of life

This course is now fully booked.

We will be publishing 2022 training dates for the 'Rules of Thumb' course shortly.

This is a new and exciting training course developed following the latest review of the Rules of Thumb document in 2020. With full permission, this document has become the base for learning and development of the training.

The course has been developed by two local hospices in Greater Manchester and EOLP, and aims to address and discuss some of the aspects of care that professionals come across when working with people with dementia at the very end-of-life.

Background of the 'Rules of Thumb' guide

The Rules of Thumb guide was developed by a team of researchers from University College London and Kings College London and a group of family carers. The latest evidence from research and clinical practice, together with views and experiences of family carers and healthcare professionals (HCP). It was updated in 2020. It is aimed at any HCPs providing care and support for people with dementia at the end of life. It can be used for training, to support decision-making, and help with discussions with family members and advocates.

You can view the Rules of Thumb guide on our online resources page here.
