A special wedding at Bolton Hospice
The care and support we provide here at the hospice goes above and beyond medical care. Our consultant-led team not only take care of patients' physical needs, we’re committed to helping patients emotional, spiritual and social needs too. And we support families and close friends, both during illness and in bereavement.
Cleo, who had lung disease, was admitted to our inpatient for pain management and after a chat with her nurse Lauren, she revealed she wanted to marry the love of her life before she died.
So the next day the whole team at Bolton Hospice rallied around to make it happen.
The fundraising team visited the Bolton Hospice charity shop in Horwich which specializes in wedding dresses and occasion wear and picked out a selection of dresses for Cleo to choose from. Cleo only had eyes for one of them and it fit perfectly - it was meant to be! Our wonderful volunteers at the charity shop also helped Cleo's daughter pick a special bridesmaid dress from the shop!
The lovely ladies from Evolve clinic in Bolton donated their time to do Cleo's make up on the big day, a kind supporter donated an amazing wedding cake and we had Cleo's favourite rainbow flowers imported in at short notice to make her day extra special!
The whole team at the hospice got together to decorate our prayer and reflection room with flowers, wedding decor and special photos of Cleo & Keith's family. Our spiritual lead and chaplain John Hall organised for a registrar to attend and at Cleo's request, John carried out the beautiful ceremony. The fantastic catering team at Bolton Hospice also put on a delicious buffet for the wedding guests after the ceremony.
Over 30 guests attended on the day, including Cleo’s doctors and nurses from the hospice, and family and friends who were there to witness the couple finally tie the knot after 18 years together!
Our place in Bolton's heart
We've been providing hospice care for Bolton since 1992. The need for hospice care in Bolton was first identified in 1984 and thanks to the unwavering, dedicated support of our community we've been able to care for thousands of local families when they needed us most.
It's an honour and a privilege to care for our community, and we are proud to be such an integral part of our town.
