Lottery Terms & Conditions
Bolton Hospice Lottery is being promoted by Bolton Hospice Lottery Ltd. On behalf of Bolton Hospice. All net proceeds from the lottery go directly towards funding hospice services, which help and support people with life-limiting conditions and their families, at no cost to them.
Joining and information
On receipt of your request to join the membership lottery, Bolton Hospice Lottery will send you an introduction letter advising you of your unique membership number. This has been generated randomly by our membership software during our application process.
Privacy and data protection
The personal information you provide to Bolton Hospice will be processed in accordance with current UK data protection legislation and our privacy policy which is available to view here. The main purpose for which we process your personal information is to administer your entry into lottery draws but for further information please see our privacy policy. Your information will be held securely and we will never sell it to anyone else.We promise to comply with all Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS) when handling your card payment information. Members accept that Bolton Hospice Lottery cannot accept liability for the loss or delays in any communication sent by post, email or fax, or for any delays in the banking system. We use our own merchant facilities to authorise your debit card and transfer your payment into our bank account. If you have any concerns regarding the security of this system please email us.
Eligibility
You must be a resident of Great Britain and aged 18 or over to play or claim a Bolton Hospice Lottery prize.
Age verification
The requirements of the Gambling Act 2005 mean that Bolton Hospice now has a statutory duty to verify that you are 18 years old or over.
Your payment
In return for your subscription payment, your unique membership number will be entered into the weekly draw which usually takes place every Friday. The weekly cost of entry is £2 in advance.
Keep the change
If you have opted in to ‘keep the change’, a £1.32 donation will be added to your monthly £8.68 payment, rounding it up to £10 (or a £16.00 donation will be added to your annual payment of £104, rounding it up to £120). This additional donation is optional and will be eligible for gift aid, which we will claim if we hold a current gift aid declaration for you.
Debit card information
We promise to store your debit card information securely (please see privacy and data protection section above).
Cancellation
If you wish to cancel your membership you may do so at any time, although those received after 5.00pm on a Thursday evening may not be actioned until after the weekly draw. For further assistance, please contact the office on 01204 663 077 or email us.
If you pay by direct debit you will also have to notify your bank to cancel.
If you are in credit at the time of cancellation, we will, subject to the above, refund your full entitlement upon request. This will be sent by cheque payment to the named member within 7 working days. Alternatively, the member can opt for the unique number(s) to be continued to be entered into the lottery until the credit has expired (any prizes won will be sent by cheque to the named member within 7 working days). Any remaining credit of £1.99p or less will be deemed as a donation to Bolton Hospice unless requested within 180 days. Refund requests must be sent in writing to the Lottery Office.
Prizes and notification
You will be notified in writing of any prize that you win within one week of the draw. A cheque for your prize amount will be sent with your notification letter. Our winning weekly numbers are publicized in the Bolton News and on our website here.
There are 37 guaranteed prizes to be won every week plus a roll over prize. These are drawn every Friday. The prizes are as follows:
1 x £1,000
2 x £50
4 x £25
20 x £10
10 x £5
1 x £200 roll over prize which, if not won, will roll over each week until it reaches a maximum prize of £10,000. When the £10,000 prize amount is reached, no further “roll over” of monies will happen and the prize will be guaranteed to be won that week.
The winners of each prize are randomly selected by a verified random number generator. The exact likelihood of winning a prize varies each week depending on how many members are in the draw that particular week. However the current likelihood is in the range of a 1 in 247 chance to a 1 in 262 chance.
Bolton Hospice Lottery Ltd may conduct additional raffles from time to time and the terms and conditions for these campaigns will be advertised in accordance with the marketing for this draw.
Proceeds of the lottery
In the 2023-24 financial year, the Bolton Hospice Lottery generated an income of £575,883. Of this, £336,368 (58%) went directly to Bolton Hospice, £79,587 (14%) was paid out or spent on lottery prizes, and the remaining £159,928 (28%) was spent on administering the lottery.
Lottery funds are held in a separate bank account in accordance with the requirements of the Gambling Commission. This meets the Gambling Commission’s requirements for the segregation of customer funds (medium level).
Change of personal details
All members are solely responsible for providing Bolton Hospice with their accurate and up to date contact details and the prompt notification of any changes. Bolton Hospice Lottery Ltd. will be in no way liable for any failure or liability to contact any member due to error, omissions, or inaccuracies in the contact details provided by the member. If you pay via the ‘Play as you Earn’ scheme and you change employer, you should notify the Lottery Office to make alternative payment arrangements.
Deceased Members
Where a player is reported as deceased, the lottery number will be cancelled and if there is any remaining lottery credit, the number will be continued to be entered into the draw until the credit(s) expire. Any winnings during this period will be made to the next of kin if known. Alternatively, we will accept written instructions from an executor or next of kin to either transfer the lottery number to a new name or cancel and refund any remaining credit. The transfer of the lottery number to a new name will only be applicable to the deceased spouse or registered partner.
Right to amend
Bolton Hospice Lottery Limited reserves the right to amend or modify these terms and conditions without notice.
Complaints
All complaints and disputes will be dealt with in accordance with our policy. In the event a complaint or dispute cannot be resolved then it will be referred to arbitration. As a member of the Hospice Lotteries Association this will be The Independent Betting Adjudication Service (IBAS), who will perform the duty of alternative dispute resolution.
Self-exclusion policy
An instruction to be self-excluded, as defined in the Gambling Act 2005, from the Bolton Hospice Lottery weekly draw or any other one-off prize draws that Bolton Hospice Lottery Limited organise may be submitted in writing, by email or by phone to the Bolton Hospice Lottery office. Self-excluded customers will not be sent any one-off prize draw tickets unless we have been notified otherwise. Customers wishing to use this facility will not be able to rejoin the lottery for a minimum of 6 months from the date of exclusion.
Gambling responsibly
Please remember - you must be aged 18 or over to play or claim a prize.
The Bolton Hospice Lottery is a member of the Hospice Lotteries Association and the Lotteries Council. These organisations are committed to using lotteries to fundraise responsibly and continually work together to encourage responsible gambling and to offer our members access to the following organisations if support is required.
if you want to have a break from gambling you can use our self-exclusion option by emailing us with your name, address and membership number(s) or calling us on 01204 633 077. We will then close your membership(s) for a minimum period of six months, during which time it will not be possible for the account(s) to be reopened for and reason
